Elastic Bandages
should I put an elastic bandage on my wrist?
I was lifting weights in gym class today and all of a sudden my wrist started to ache. I was tempted to go get ice to ease the ache but I forgot. I was a spotter for my friend who was lifting the weights. it still aches a little and hurts when I twist it a little. I also had keyboarding class today and my wrist ached while I was typing. if this isn’t normal can you tell me what’s probably wrong and what I can do for it. I’m 14 years old
I am a physician assistant in primary care so I see this kind of thing often. You probably have a minor sprain. If it is swollen then an an ace bandage will help. Ice is a good idea the first couple of days to reduce any swelling and inflammation. You can also get a wrist splint at the store, like one a roller blader would wear. That will help it heal faster and reduce the pain you are feeling when you type. You can take the splint off at night but I would wear it until the pain is gone. If it doesn’ slowly improve over the next few days then you should see your doctor.
