How long does a baby usually cry for before falling a sleep when using the cry it out method?

I have tried everything to get my one year old to go to sleep. Nothing is working and all though it breaks my heart I have decided to give on and try what everyone suggests , the cry it out method. My question is how long does it usually take for a baby to fall a sleep when using this method? Also how long does it take for them to fall back a sleep in the middle of the night?? Any advice on This method would be very helpful. Thanks

i think the older they are the more persistent, so a one year old is probably going to go for a while. it could seriously go hours, my son was a tough one, we let him cry it out at 7 months, right when we laid him down and when he woke up in the night. we would check on him once and that’s it. but after 2 days of it, he became a fantastic sleeper, sleeping 13 -14 hrs at night.
my daughter, we started her earlier at 4 months and it just took 20 min.
when they are crying, they are just yelling at you saying ‘ i don’t know how to fall asleep and i am so tired’
my doc said that with some kids you can go in every 5, 10 , 15 min to soothe, but others, you go in once and that’s it, especially the persistent ones.
